Former professional footballer with Port Power, Carlton Blues and Adelaide Crows with 10 years of coaching experience across all ages including AFL talent pathways.

A Message from Founder/Coach, Darren

"We started PlayPerform and the academy because we saw a need for more than just drills (although technical & tactical coaching is still our bread and butter). We're here to help your child articulate their goals, learn the tools and display the habits to make them a reality. It's done by creating a great environment for players to connect, communicate and show leadership within a group of peers who also love their footy and want to be their best. My promise is that we will help in your child's growth as a person first, and a player second, which we believe has the greatest impact not just on the field but in becoming a self-sufficient and confident person in their lives."

Our Academy Squads, limited to 8 athletes, offer personalised feedback, competitive training, and faster improvement. Start your journey in one of four key phases aligned with school terms: Power-Up Phase: Jan – Apr, Competition One Phase: Apr – Jul, Competition Two Phase: Jul – Sep, Technical Skill & Recharge Phase: Oct – Dec. Once a squad is full, you can join the waitlist and be notified of your new squad.

Each month, you’ll follow a Skill Success Cycle designed to help you improve, stay motivated, and take charge of your development:

Set Goals: Upload your skill video and questionnaire to highlight strengths and growth areas.
Create Your Plan: Collaborate with your coach on a Mastery Action Plan (MAP).
Train & Stay Engaged: Tackle tailored drills, learn from expert webinars, and challenge yourself.
Refine Your Skills: Get weekly individual feedback and video analysis.
Track Your Progress: Monthly coach reviews ensure you’re always improving.

This isn’t just training - it’s a complete system for lasting success, built to help you improve at every step.

Focus on one specific skill challenge to allow for detailed analysis and feedback.
No scattergun approach here - by narrowing your focus, you’ll see real progress which will motivate you, rather than trying to tackle too many areas at once.

Skill Focus:

Guided by our curriculum & skill tree, you will set your vision in the Mastery Action Plan (MAP).
We adapt to your unique abilities and focus on fast improvement while keeping a long-term vision of success in mind.

Injuries happen, but we’ve got you covered!

Your Mastery Action Plan (MAP) will be updated immediately so you can keep improving - there are always skills and habits to work on.

Have a physio or health expert? We can add them into your Private CoachNow Space and help provide feedback and accountability to support your recovery and keep you accountable at home.

Physio doesn't want to join? You can still upload your rehab exercises, and we’ll support you to stay on track with your rehab. We are aiming to integrate our own AFL specialised physio to answer any question you may have, or book online consultations in the near future.

Parents play an essential role in their athlete’s journey, and we value your support every step of the way.

By creating a positive environment so your child loves playing footy, you help their growth, autonomy, and confidence - on and off the field.

Our coaches work with both the athlete & parents, focusing on building trust and teamwork. We want athletes to take ownership of their own development, and your role in supporting that remains vital.

The goal? Equip athletes with better habits, more self-belief, and the internal motivation and confidence to reach their goals - helping them thrive long into the future.
